Sports Premium Funding

The Sports Premium is ongoing funding provided by the government to support primary schools in improving and maintaining the quality of physical education (PE, Dance and Games), sport and physical activity. At Meltham CE Primary School, we commit the entirety of the grant and additional funds to ensure the offer is of the highest quality possible. The purpose of the Sports Premium grant is to:

  • increase opportunities for pupils to take part in regular physical activity.

  • be an additional tool for whole-school improvement, fostering a positive and active school culture, and to raise the profile of sports across the school.

  • build the confidence, knowledge, and skills of staff in teaching PE and sports. It seeks to ensure our teaching resources are more than adequate so teachers can offer a more productive, engaging, inclusive and broader active curriculum.

  • offer a wider, more inclusive range of sports and activities to all pupils, including some non-traditional sports.

  • boost participation in competitive opportunities, such as local, regional, or intra-school games.

Meltham CE Primary works to utilise the Sports Premium grant to make effective, enjoyanble and sustainable improvements to the PE, dance and games curricula in school.

How will we meet our aims?

  • Specialist coaches will be brought in to help guide teachers as well as provide school with after school clubs to enrich the curriculum and children's physical activity. In addition to specialist coaches, a trained PE teacher will also provide specialist PE and Games input for all Key Stages.

  • The PE lead and specialist teaching coaches will support teachers in teaching PE, dance and games across the key stages through planned allocation of sports trained staff, as well as a structured scheme of work (Get Set 4 PE). Each class from Reception to Year 6 will have regular scheduled opportunities to work alongside PE coaches and a specialist PE teacher to ensure teaching is of the highest quality and takes full opportunity of the equipment, opportunities and spaces available.

  • Resources will be purchased to help implement any new areas of the PE curriculum and to renew resources so that the curriculum taught will be inclusive and provide a range of opportunities for all children.

  • To consult with pupils, parents and staff regarding their opinion on the direction physical education at school.

  • Intra and Inter school competitions will be planned and taken part in across the school year.

  • Promote active play and wellbeing during break times and opportunities for all children to engage in a daily run.

  • Meltham CE Primary school is committed to promoting involvement in sporting activities beyong the PE, Dance and Games curriculum in school. We are a member of the Pennine School's Partnership, regularly committing to promote involvement in local athletics (both indoor and outdoor), SEND specific sporting events, cricket football and other local events.

  • Planned investment leading to sustained improvement to teaching of PE, Dance and Games across the school through the employment of a trained PE teacher and sports coaches working alongside the PE Curriculum Team, SLT (Senior Leadership Team) and teaching staff.

  • Each child making the national standard in swimming by the end of Key Stage 2.

  • The development and implementation of a sustainable, varied, stimulating, inclusive and effective PE curriculum.

  • A well-resourced curriculum for all pupils supported by wider opportunities for intra and extra-curricular sporting opportunities.

  • Positive links with local sporting clubs and providers.
